Welcome to Queer Parrot
Founded in England by designer Suze Kipper, Queer Parrot is a proudly independent British store. We are dedicated to creating original art that celebrates queer identities.
Created for Adults
We aim to offer an alternative to over-used tropes and designs by showcasing original art that lets us express and celebrate our queerness in a grown-up way. Our products are designed to be out, proud, and unapologetic statement pieces. That said, we don’t think out and proud should have to be loud, it can be quiet and subtle and gentle too. We want there to be options.
Design and Production Locations
All artwork and design is created in-house in England, UK. The physical manufacturing and shipping of our catalogue is handled through specialized print partners. Most of our products are Print on Demand which means they are printed when ordered. The upside is that we can offer a large range of colours and products without stocking large numbers of items. The downside is that it can take longer for delivery. Please check delivery times on the product pages.
Most of our items are printed in the UK, some are printed in Europe. Where the items ship from Europe this is stated in the product details. Very occasionally those items that are UK printed may be printed in Europe if there is a shortage of blank products here, but that hasn’t happened yet and we expect it will be rare that that happens.
Designs and AI Usage
Suze Kipper
Suze Kipper uses minimal AI within the designs. Their policy is that it’s acceptable to use AI for anything that they could do themselves only it would take a bit longer without AI. If it is something that is outside of their capability to create without AI then don’t do it with AI. For example, creating a realistic watercolour painting of a cheetah is outside of their capability so you won’t see one in their designs. The silhouette of a dinosaur is within their capability so they may use AI for that as a starting point or as the final piece used in a larger design. AI generated images are unlikely to be a large component of the design. In reality Suze Kipper rarely uses any AI in the design process.
Other Brands at Queer Parrot
At the moment we don’t have any designs that are based on AI, but we may do in the future. If AI has been a used beyond the capability of the artist to do it themselves then this information will be included in the product details.
Image sources and AI Usage
We think AI is great for many things. Below is details of where we do and don’t use AI and how we create the images on our website.
Product Images
Images with a white background: Many are generated by our suppliers or by third party product image generators. We only use them if we believe they are accurate representations of what you will receive.
With some items we take a photo of a real item such as a blank t-shirt and then superimpose the design graphic. This process makes for a far more realistic colour representation that if we took photo of the printed t-shirt.
Lifestyle Images: At the moment all are lifestyle pictures, such as a mug on a desk, are real photographs taken in real settings using real products. For some products we take a photo of a real blank product in a real setting and then superimpose the design.
Website Images
We think AI can be fantastic for creating fun images on the website and some of the more sensible images that are needed and we do do this. In most cases it will be blatantly obvious that it is AI created.
Core Values
- Positivity: Creating art that gives us positive visibility without being negative about anyone else.
- Community: A proudly independent UK studio endeavouring to bring us together as we see each other out and proud.
- Precision: Deliberate, exact design processes by someone with a bit of a thing about detail.
- Feminist and Trans-Inclusive: Belief in the need to advocate for women and trans people. We’re all in this together
- Honesty: We are against the copying of other people’s ideas or art. While we do take inspiration from the world around us, we do not take other peoples work or ideas and present it as our own.
The Future
What we plan to create over the next year:
- Many different product types, some will be print on demand and some stocked meaning faster delivery.
- In the spring we will be bring more clothing including t-shirts in time for pride season
- A wider offering for non-binary and trans people beyond pronouns
